Rules and risk
Kraken Prop rules, calculated before you choose a plan
Every Kraken Prop plan has a 3% maximum daily loss. Advanced pairs a 9% target with 3% maximum drawdown, Intermediate pairs 12% with 5%, and Starter pairs 10% with 6%. Drawdown is static, but realised loss, open loss, commission and funding all count. Touching either limit fails the account.
Kraken documents conflict on some country wording. Use the loss limit displayed inside your own account as the operational reference.

What stands out
- Maximum drawdown is static, not trailing
- No maximum evaluation duration is announced
- No consistency rule or profit cap is announced
What to consider
- The daily loss limit is 3% on every plan
- Fees and floating losses count toward breach
- Touching the threshold causes failure
Rule table
| Plan | Profit target | Daily loss | Maximum drawdown | Sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Advanced | 9% | 3% | 3% | $5k to $200k |
| Intermediate | 12% | 3% | 5% | $5k to $200k |
| Starter | 10% | 3% | 6% | $5k to $100k |
Profit targets and maximum drawdown are based on the nominal starting size. The MDL rate is 3%, but its dollar amount is recalculated from the account balance at 00:30 UTC.
Maximum daily loss
The maximum daily loss resets at 00:30 UTC. Kraken recalculates its dollar amount as 3% of the account balance at that time. Profit raises the next day’s dollar amount, while a lower reset balance reduces it. The live account display remains the operational reference.
What is consistent is the scope: realised losses, unrealised losses, commissions and funding participate in the calculation. An open position can therefore breach the rule without being closed.
| Balance at 00:30 UTC | Illustrative 3% MDL amount |
|---|---|
| $5,000 | $150 |
| $10,000 | $300 |
| $25,000 | $750 |
| $50,000 | $1,500 |
| $100,000 | $3,000 |
| $200,000 | $6,000 |
These amounts apply only when the balance at the daily reset equals the nominal size shown. After profit or loss, Kraken recalculates 3% from the new reset balance. They are mathematical illustrations, not recommended risk budgets.
Maximum drawdown
Maximum drawdown is static against the initial balance. It does not trail upward after profits. That makes it easier to model than an end-of-day or intraday trailing floor.
For a $100,000 plan:
- Advanced fails at $97,000 or below, subject to Kraken’s exact breach logic;
- Intermediate fails at $95,000 or below;
- Starter fails at $94,000 or below.
Touching the threshold causes failure. Using an internal stop exactly at the official number leaves no buffer for fees, spread or execution.
Profit target
Advanced asks for 9%, Intermediate 12% and Starter 10%. There is no announced consistency rule, so the rules do not require equal daily profit. There is also no maximum evaluation duration.
The ratio of target to maximum drawdown helps compare difficulty:
| Plan | Target divided by max drawdown |
|---|---|
| Advanced | 3.0 |
| Intermediate | 2.4 |
| Starter | 1.67 |
This ratio is not a probability of passing. It simply shows how much net profit is required relative to the total permitted loss. Starter gives the widest relative buffer, while Advanced has the lowest fee.
Trading fees and funding
Commission is 0.04% per side. A round trip is therefore 0.08% of notional before spread or slippage. Funding is 0.033% per day and is calculated every four hours.
For $50,000 of round-trip notional, commission is $40. On a $5,000 Advanced plan, that equals more than a quarter of the $150 maximum drawdown. Nominal position size, not the evaluation fee, drives the commission.
Payout conditions
Before requesting a payout, all positions and orders must be closed and balance must equal equity. The trader completes full identity verification, signs the funded agreement and passes a manual review.
Kraken says the review usually takes under 12 hours and processing occurs within 24 hours. Proceeds are credited to the main Kraken wallet in USD or USDG. The standard trader share is 80%; the 90% option must be bought with the evaluation for 20% above the base price.
Account limits
Several evaluations and funded plans can run at once, but Kraken caps total active nominal capital at $200,000. That figure combines evaluation and funded allocations.
The cap does not mean the trader owns $200,000. Both stages use virtual funds, and the service is described as unregulated.

It is 3% of the account balance measured at 00:30 UTC for Advanced, Intermediate and Starter. The resulting dollar amount is recalculated every day.
Is Kraken Prop drawdown trailing?
No. Kraken describes maximum drawdown as static against the starting balance.
Do Kraken Prop fees count toward drawdown?
Yes. Commissions and funding are included alongside realised and unrealised losses.
Can you hold Kraken Prop trades overnight?
Positions can be held, but 0.033% daily funding is calculated every four hours and market exposure remains inside the loss limits.
Is there a time limit to pass Kraken Prop?
No maximum evaluation duration is currently announced.
